10U County Cup reports

The 10U County Cup was held over the weekend of 20th and 21st May. The Wiltshire boys played at Royal Wootton Bassett TC and the girls at Sherborne in Dorset. Reports below:

GIRLS
Group: South Group E – Sherborne
Players: Daisy, Sophia, Eloise, Imogen
Captains – Matt Rutland and Becky Kaufmann

Day 1- The girls started Day 1 on the clay courts taking on a strong Hampshire and Isle of Wight team. It was a difficult start but the girls shown great spirit despite falling to a 6-0 defeat. Lots of the games were close matches, being unlucky to lose of several sudden death deuces and two loses on set tiebreaks. The afternoon saw the Wiltshire girls go up another level in performance taking Sussex on and finishing 2-2 after the single rubbers. With it all to play for in the doubles, Wiltshire were unfortunate to lose both doubles matches, falling to a 4-2 defeat overall against a great spirited Sussex Team.

Day 2- Day 2 saw the girls start the day against the eventual overall winners, Surrey. The girls matched the strong surrey team with lots of fight and spirit but unfortunately lost 6-0. Wiltshire went on to play Dorset, with Sophia winning her singles making it 3-1 Dorset going in to the singles. Our doubles pairing of Daisy and Eloise and Sophia and Imogen went into the final doubles with fighting spirit but unfortunately fell short losing both rubbers.

Overall the girls had a great weekend on and off court with great spirit and energy shown throughout, making Wiltshire Tennis very proud of all their efforts!

BOYS
Group: South group E – Royal Wootton Bassett
Players: Zachary, Jasper, Samarth, Finlay, Nischay
Captain: Lee Mahony

The boys put in a great effort for the county cup, with great team spirit and supporting each other to the bitter end. All ties were close and could of gone either way. Despite coming 6th in a tough group the rubbers were very close and only losing out on a match tie break shoot out to Dorset narrowly. Outstanding effort from Jasper H who won all his singles at number 1 comfortably and a very good singles effort from Zac P.

Well done to the boys who should do well in future county cups.
