11U Girls – Bristol
Team: Mia, Pheobe, Nicole and Olivia
Captain – Lewis Fletcher
On the weekend of 18th June – the girls U11 County Cup event took place in Bristol.
We had Devon, Somerset, Avon and Cornwall in our groups and the matches were played in a round robin.
Over the course of the weekend the players put in a great performance throughout and won against Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. As we all guessed it would be between Avon and Wiltshire to take 1st or 2nd place.
Avon proved to have too much depth in their squad this year with Wiltshire having players out injured.
I was very proud of the girls with their own individual performances with some players achieving personal wins against players they hadn’t beaten before!! I would love for girls to make national finals at some stage in their county’s careers. Hopefully next year! Once again – Well done girls!!

Saturday
The 11U boys started the weekend against a very strong Devon side and despite some of the matches going to tie breaks and the boys showing some great fight we lost the rubber 6-0. Next up for Wiltshire was a match against Somerset and we got off to a great start with singles wins for George and Pierre to give us a 2-0 lead, however their 1&2 were particularly strong and a year older than both Alex and Adhrit and despite Adhrit getting his match to a match tie break we ended up 2-2 after the singles had been played. So we headed to the doubles, where the boys showed some great teamwork and use of the things we’d worked on in county training previously, however we narrowly lost both doubles in 3rd set match tie breaks which was tough to take for the boys but they’d showed great fight.
Sunday
After a nice team meal the night before, the boys were in good spirits and got off to a fantastic start with a 6-0 win over Cornwall, with all the boys playing really well. Next up for Wiltshire was a match against Avon, it was always going to be a tough one but the boys got off to a good start with George battling hard and losing a close one but Pierre coming through with a win leaving us 1-1 with Alex and Adhrit about to take to the court against tough opponents. Unfortunately both lost but Adhrit was unlucky to lose a match tie break and meant we were 3-1 down heading into doubles. George and Pierre showed great fight to win their match in a 3rd set tie break but Adhrit and Alex just came up short losing 4-2 4-2 meaning that we went down 4-2.
Overall I was really pleased with the boys effort and commitment throughout the weekend and they were a pleasure to have there representing Wiltshire!
