12U County Cup Reports

The 12U County Cup was held over the weekend of 16th & 17th September 2023. The girls competed at Bradfield College in the Division 1 Play offs and the Boys in Division 2 at Burnham-On-Sea. Reports below:

12U Boys County Cup
Venue – Burnham-On-Sea
Date – 16th & 17th September 2023
Captains – Will Baillie
Team – Reuben, Alex, Pierre, Henry

The Under 12 Boys team were at Burnham on Sea on a wet and windy weekend to represent Wiltshire at the County Cup.

We were placed in a tough group with Dorset and Somerset who were the two strongest counties at the event. Our boys, Alex, Pierre, Henry and Reuben fought really hard and pushed both counties into the last round but just fell short 4-2 to Dorset (who went on to win the event) and 5-1 to Somerset. Our players played with great spirit and despite many tie breaks we just fell on the wrong side of the result.

When we returned to play Channel Islands on day 2 we were really keen to get the win after a tough opening day. Despite being up in all 4 singles matches, the weather intervened and we had to abandon the match without a result.

The boys supported each other and played with great spirit. They did Wiltshire proud and gave the winning county their toughest match of the weekend.

12U Girls County Cup
Venue – Bradfield College
Date – 16th & 17th September 2023
Captains – Lewis Fletcher and Dave Morris
Team – Mia, Matilda, Nicole, Phoebe and Daisy

I have always enjoyed being part of this group of girls county cup journeys. They are a strong team that at every county cup always have a chance of going through to the next rounds.

The Counties in our group for this Division 1 play offs were Berkshire, Suffolk and Hertfordshire. The girls biggest match was against Suffolk. It was one of those matches I could see that was going to be tight and go to a shootout and this match as a whole and especially the shootout could have gone either way. Unfortunately, it was not to fall our way. The girls kept their positives spirit going into the other fixtures and did Wiltshire proud and came in second place.
