14U Girls County Cup
Venue – Torquay
Date 28th – 30th April 2023
Captains – Lewis and Catherine Fletcher
Team – Sophie, Emily, Mia, Ella, Nicole and Ayna

Another great weekend for the Wiltshire U14 girls – from a tennis perspective through to social, the experiences and the outcome.
In the 1st match we played Cornwall, we had a great record against Cornwall in the past and this time round was no different apart from the fact that we all felt Cornwall were a lot stronger than a year ago. Nevertheless the girls pulled off a 6-0 victory.
Second group match was against Somerset – They had a couple of new players that we haven’t seen before, which always makes thing more interesting. Our number 4 and 3 got off to a flying start and it was about keeping the momentum.  Overall score we won 5-1.
The girls won their round robin group – and now it was a re match against Avon from last year. There were a few close matches that could have made the tie go either way at certain points in the girls matches – unfortunately these moments didn’t go our way to take Avon and we lost to them 5-1.
Overall place – 2nd out of 6 counties. A big well done to the girls!!

14U Boys County Cup Report
Venue – Taunton
Date 28th – 30th April 2023
Captains – Neil Little and Matt Rutland
Team – Harry, Andrew, Carlos, George, Josh, Joel

Day 1 – The boys took on a tough Avon side which was always going to be a difficult challenge but there was some great fight shown from all the boys despite falling to a 6-0 defeat.
Day 2 – We started off the day against the Channel Islands, with George winning his first match at number 4 to put Wiltshire 1-0 up. There were also singles wins from Harry and Andrew to put us 3-1 up after the singles with Carlos narrowly losing after a good match. Heading into the doubles knowing we only needed 1 rubber to win the match. Harry and Andrew teamed up to get us that vital point, meaning we won 4-2 after Josh and Joel just came up short in their doubles match. In the afternoon we then took on Somerset with the winner getting 3rd spot. We off to a great start with Carlos and Josh getting us singles wins and playing some unbelievable tennis to pull through for Wiltshire. Unfortunately Harry lost his singles match but Andrew stepped up and got us another rubber win coming from a set down to win in a 3rd set match tie break against a good opponent. Unfortunately that was as good as it got despite great fight we were outplayed on the doubles court losing both rubbers and then a tough shout-out loss followed.
Overall it was a great weekend with lots of fun had and the boys did Wiltshire tennis proud both on and off the court!
