LTA 14U County Cup – 30th April & 1st May

GIRLS – TORQUAY – GROUP A

Team: Olivia, Ella, Emily, Matilda, Sophie and Anya

It was a great weekend all round with the girls finishing second overall. There were six counties in the group with the group spilt into two group of three counties.

We were drawn with the Channel Islands and Cornwall.

The girls pulled out a faultless 6-0 win against both counties to top our group. So taking top spot we were there for playing Avon in the final. The Avon girls were just too strong, playability and physically and most of their players are in their last years in 14s, whereas most of the Wiltshire girls have a few more years left in U14s which makes for a very promising future. Well done to all the girls.

BOYS – ROYAL WOOTTON TC – GROUP A

Day 1 – Our first match was against Cornwall and the boys got off to a great start winning all our singles rubbers to lead 4-0 heading into the doubles, with comfortable 2 set wins for Jaydan, Harry, Alex and Andrew. However the doubles proved a bit more difficult and Harry and Alex lost a tight doubles match before Jaydan and Carlos won another tight doubles match in the 3rd set tie break meaning a 5-1 win for Wiltshire.

Due to heavy rain being forecast the next day we then played Avon straight after. We knew this was going to be a tough one against a very strong and experienced Avon team and despite the boys best efforts we lost 6-0.

Day 2 – That meant after day 1 we were playing for 3rd place out of 6 and drew us against Somerset. The boys started well with Andrew showing great fight and determination to win his singles match and put us 1-0 ahead. However we then went 2-1 down with Harry and Alex losing close matches that on another day might have gone our way, before Jaydan went on court against the number 5 in the country at 14&U. Jaydan put up a great fight but went down in 2 sets leaving us 3-1 down heading into the doubles. Despite the boys best efforts we then went onto lose both doubles rubbers, even though the boys played some great points and showed great team spirit throughout.

Big well done to all the boys who showed great fight throughout the weekend and hopefully will have gained some invaluable learning experiences for the future. Also big thanks to the parents for their support and in particular Deane Greenouff for his help organising the Saturday night entertainment at Pizza Hut and Tenpin bowling.
