Wiltshire Tennis were pleased to support the Wiltshire Council’s Community Sport and Physical Activity Team who recently ran a Walking Sports Festival at Melksham Community Campus on 13th July 2025, showcasing taster sessions for different walking and lower impact sports.
This event was free to the residents of Melksham and surrounding areas. Participants could opt into walking tennis, walking netball, walking football, walking rugby, badminton and pickleball throughout the morning.
Despite the very hot conditions, the walking tennis (in partnership with the LTA) sessions were a huge success. A huge thank you for Hilda Moore from Marlborough Tennis Club who led the sessions over a 3-hour period with great energy, enthusiasm and knowledge for this lower impact version of the traditional game of tennis, played using orange balls, a shorter court and an extra bounce if needed. Thank you also to Lizzie from Melksham Tennis Club who supported the event.
Participants, some new to tennis and some who hadn’t picked up a racket in many years thoroughly enjoyed the experience with feedback highlighting how fun and engaging the sessions were. The event showcased the inclusive and accessible nature of walking sports, bringing people together in a relaxed environment and signposting to sessions in the local community.
