It was back to Pewsey Tennis Club this year for the Junior Play Your Way to Wimbledon Wiltshire County Finals and it was great to see so many players with their families court side supporting them and their opponents.
With juniors competing who have only just taken up the sport to those who have been playing for years the matches were played with a light hearted spirit and great sportsmanship and the matches did not disappoint.
Our top two seeds in the boys 14u event – Harry and Andrew battled in out in the final with Harry taking the silver plate and a place at the National Finals.
Sadly the number of girls entries were very low so the girls played off in a round robin format with Karin winning after a third set tie break against Mia. What a match it was can good luck to Karin in the National Finals and to Mia who has qualified for a place in the 18u Doubles with her partner.
It was lovely to see young players from different clubs socialising and making new friends. Juniors are the future of tennis and the success of the clubs depends on them playing and engaging in the sport. The Play Your Way To Wimbledon events are a great opportunity for clubs to host events for 14u single events – with a full event pack sent to clubs you don’t need to worry about certificates, medals or prizes – you just need a responsible adult to run the event and the best part it’s FREE to register and sign up – so don’t forget to register for 2025. This is a great opportunity to raise the profile of your club and give players the opportunity to play in this national event.
