Wiltshire Welcomes Families from Ukraine

Two Ukrainian tennis playing families have recently been matched with sponsor families close to Trowbridge Westbourne Tennis Club under the Government Scheme “Homes for Ukraine”.  The community club in Wiltshire have welcomed them with free membership and their coaching provider, Blue Sky Tennis, have included them into their programme at no charge.  The club members have raised over £500 for them to spend on anything they need to settle in, as well as donating rackets, tennis clothing, and more for them.

When LTA President, David Rawlinson, found out about this via Wiltshire Tennis, he arranged for grounds passes for club member Kay to bring Daryna (13yrs) and her mother Oksana to spend a day at The Championships.  They have been overwhelmed by the kindness they have received and expressed their thanks to everyone concerned.  After all that they have been through, they never imagined they would be at Wimbledon watching Djokovic on the practice courts, and enjoying the atmosphere on The Hill.  The highlight of their day was watching Ukrainian player Lyudmila Kichenok win her doubles match alongside Latvian Elena Ostapenko.
