On Sunday 7th April, Delta Tennis Centre celebrated its 30th anniversary, bringing the community together and welcoming over 1000 visitors.
On the week commencing the 1st April 2019 The Tennis Team at Delta Tennis Centre embarked on a weeks long roadshow, to deliver tennis sessions to 10 local primary schools in Swindon. The aim of this was to encourage new children in Key Stage 1 to experience tennis for the first time. Steve Yeardley (Tennis Manager) and Matt Rutland (Tennis Coach and Community Tennis Lead) visited 10 schools which saw 1200 children take part in coached tennis activities.
The conclusion of the Roadshow saw Delta Tennis Centre open its doors to the local community for its 30th Anniversary. The Celebration offered those that attended a wide range of free activities such as coached junior sessions, cardio tennis, free play and family tennis.
Over 1000 attendees visited the centre over the course of the day, 290 of these were booked into tennis specific events. A team of 15 staff including 10 tennis leaders (trained from within the programme) helped on the day and all enabled this event to be a huge success. Delta’s local supermarket, Waitrose, were on hand to offer strawberries and cream throughout the day to get guests in the Wimbledon mood, while also raising £75 on the refreshment stand for Stand Up To Cancer.
