Junior County Champs
Royal Wootton Bassett Tennis Club and Delta Tennis Centre was the setting for the 2022 Wiltshire Junior County Championships.
Our week commenced with the 8u and 9u events indoors at Delta Tennis Centre. The spirits were high and juniors took to the courts in a relaxed but competitive atmosphere. The matches were overseen by an amazing group of Junior Leaders and with their help and support the event moved along seamlessly. For some juniors this was their first tournament and all played competitive and sometimes nail biting matches. Congratulations to you all.
From Monday onwards it was the turn of the older juniors from 11 and under through to the 18 and under at Royal Wootton Bassett Tennis Club.
Players and spectators were greeted every morning with the smell of fresh coffee and home cooked bacon sandwiches from the RWBTC refreshments team. The courts were prepared with score cards, chairs and single sticks and each day was ready for some amazing matches. As the sun shone down players took to the courts with determination and passion. The balls travelled over the nets with hope and fair play and all players respected the games in true sportsperson fashion.
With only one day facing rain delays the Wiltshire Junior County Closed concluded on the Saturday with Finals Day which was made all the more special by the attendance of Sir Geoffrey Owen who kindly agreed to present the finalists their trophies during the closing presentation.
Congratulations to each and every player – for the amazing attitude on court and the fair play through to the fun and relaxed atmosphere you all created. Thank you also to all the parents and spectators – without your support these championships would not have been as successful as they wer
Adult County Champs
The following weekend of the 3rd/4th September we travelled to Pewsey Tennis Club which was to be the venue for the Wiltshire Adult County Championships and with events ranging from Open to 65+ we had an amazing couple of days of tennis nestled in the Wiltshire countryside.
Once again, the players were greeted with friendly faces from the club team and delicious refreshments. Matches had some rivalry which was great to see and all played and fought in the spirit of the game.
The Wiltshire Adult County Championships was sponsored by Jacky Witt, in memory of her husband Roger who passed away suddenly last year. It was at these championships that Roger Henry and Liz Bissett were able to present Jacky with a Meritorious Service Award for Roger for all his hard work and dedication to Wiltshire Tennis.
Thank you to everyone who came along whether a player or a spectator – without your support these events would not have been as successful. A big thank you also to everyone who bought raffle tickets to support Wiltshire Junior Tennis and fingers crossed for you all.
