Boys Captain – Neil Watts
Boys assistant Captain – Dave Morris
Counties – Wiltshire, Hampshire and IOW, Dorset, Sussex and Kent.
Both boys/girls had a very tough group of counties to challenge against. It was no easy task. We as a county knew we would be more the underdogs but went into this event with a positive mindset of learning and taking as much from this event as possible so they can learn and understand the level they need to get to if they wish to push their tennis.
The girls started their event on the sat – many things were learned but wasn’t easy having the bigger/stronger counties in the early stages. I was pleased we took two rubbers off Hampshire and IOW. The biggest highlight was taking victory against Sussex. This really boosted the girl’s confidence to finish on a win and 4th overall.
The boys had the same group of counties as the girls which was played on the Sunday. It was a very similar experience as to the girls but unfortunately they couldn’t pull off the win against Sussex in their last match.
Overall it was a good experience for the young players to reflect on. The moto was ‘We win, we learn, we never lose’ and we will continue to work hard and keep closing the gap….
