It was a beautiful morning at Swindon Tennis Centre which was the setting for the 2022 Play Your Way to Wimbledon County Finals.
As the players arrived the sense of anticipation grew and after a tournament briefing the players and parents were set to go. The boys entered the arena first in the first rounds with long rallies and tense points. All battled hard as the temperatures started to rise and over the course of the morning the draw had worked its way down to two players in the final – Samuel and Andrew.
Whilst the boys were duelling we had three amazing young ladies playing a round robin event to decide the girls final with the winner takes all match played between Jiselle and Annie.
As the players took to the courts, a sense of calm surrounded the courts. The matches ebbed and flowed with the girls going to two tie breaks but in the end there can be only one winner.
Congratulations to Samuel and Annie who have qualified for the finals at Wimbledon and I hope Jiselle and Andrew will return next year to compete another day.
