Wiltshire 10U boys team finish 5th at National Finals!

U10 National Finals were held at Bath Uni on 10 – 12th of June.

Captain – Lewis Fletcher

Team – Adhrit, Jacob, Reuben and Alexander

It was a really proud moment and achievement for the boy to be in the National Finals.

There were 8 counties in the Finals spilt into two groups of 4.  We, Wiltshire, had Middlesex, Warwickshire and Yorkshire in our group.

On the 1st day we took on Middlesex and after nearly 7 hrs of play the boys won in the shoot out, Great start for the group and the boys!

However, on Saturday the boy endured a tough match against Yorkshire who were strong throughout and made the final. We lost 4-2,  hoping that the 2 rubbers would help us at the end of the group. Later that afternoon we started the singles against Warwickshire.

This was a fixture we needed to win to take us to second in the group. After close singles matches the boys were tied at 2-2. The doubles was to be decided the next morning.  After 8.30am match start time they were tied again at 3-3. Another shoot to be decided but unfortunately it wasn’t to be this time.  Lost 4-3.

This put us against East Scotland fighting for 5th place. Somehow after a long 2 and half days the boys found the energy and strength to beat East Scotland 4-2 to gain 5th place.

They did amazing to put themselves and Wiltshire on the map at the National Finals. It will be an experience they will look back on and say they competed for Wiltshire at U10 County Cup!!!  We are all very proud of them!

I hope these boys will be able to continue to develop and enjoy their tennis journey into the U11 and U12 county cup.  Congratulations,

Lewis Fletcher (Capatin & Wilts Performance Co-0rdinator)
