11U County Cup Reports

The Wiltshire 11U County teams competed at the LTA 11U County cup event over the weekend of 17th and 18th June

The 11U County Cup was held over the weekend of 17th and 18th June. The girls competed in Taunton and the Boys in Woodford Green. Reports below:

11U Girls County Cup – Division 2
Venue – Taunton
Date 17th & 18th June 2023
Captain – Catherine Fletcher
Team – Alice, Una, Daisy, Cora and Amelie

We played Devon first and after the singles it was 2-2 in rubbers so all to play for in the doubles. We then played the singles matches against Somerset and after the singles had an advantage of being 3-1 up. Then the doubles rubbers to go for – the pairings of Alice / Una and Daisy/ Cora worked well. This paid off and we won all the doubles so we beat Devon 4-2 and Somerset 5-1 so a great start to the event. All to play for on Sunday and a really impressive effort from all girls .

We had Cornwall to play in the first match on Sunday. Amelie played at 4th and got us off to a good start , Daisy and Alice following suit . The latter was amazing to turn around a 4-0 first set loss to win! Nice to be 3-1 up before the doubles rubbers.

We then had to play Dorset and the girls put up a good fight but sadly they were too strong for us and we were 4-0 down after the singles .

We then played Cornwall doubles matches and managed to wrap that up winning both doubles thus 4-2 .

Dorset won both doubles thus overall winners and our girls should be very proud with a 2nd place . Well done to all the girls.

11U Boys County Cup – Division 1 Play Offs
Venue – Woodford Green, Essex
Date 17th & 18th June 2023
Captain – Lewis Fletcher and Neil Little
Team – Adhrit, Alexandra, Reuben and Jasper

It was great the U11 boys qualified for the Division 1 play off group based on their individuals rankings – this comes from hard work and lots of competing.  However being place in the qualifying group means the other counties in our group would be strong – most of the players are in the top 100.  In our group we had South Wales, Essex and Cambridgeshire

The boys did very well, maybe a little nervous and slow on the first morning. The warm weather certainly played a part as the day went on.  Wiltshire came up against South Wales in the first fixture – there were many opportunities to take the first two matches – but it wasn’t to go our way. I think if we had the first two matches then things might have looked a little different.  In the afternoon we took on Cambridgeshire and there were some great individuals’ performances but Cambridgeshire proved too strong.

On the final day we came up against Essex – they had already beaten South Wales, so winning against Essex would make the table more interesting. The boys were a lot more settled and used to the situation. After many individual battles, we ended up 3-3 and headed into a shoot out in which the boys performed brilliantly to come through and win. So it ended with 3 counties winning one fixture and losing 2 apart from Cambridgeshire.

Well Done to the boys for their efforts and a big thank you to the parents for their support.
