Wiltshire’s 9 & Under girls delivered a season to remember in this year’s County Cup!  The journey began with a nail-biting win against Hampshire and Isle of Wight in the qualifying stage, a tie so close it couldn’t be separated after 4 singles and 2 doubles matches. Holt Sports Courts (HSRC) is delighted to announce they have secured grant funding for 12 months of walking tennis coaching on Holt tennis courts!  The funding is being provided by the Wiltshire Community Foundation (www.wiltshirecf.org.uk) under their Older People’s Programme. Walking tennis was introduced in Holt in May 2024 and to date has involved around a dozen players of varying abilities, mostly aged over 65, and all keen to continue or return to regular recreational activities. Some have been recovering from poor health, injury or just wanted greater social contact with others through sport. This grant funding will allow the programme…

On 15th October, Wiltshire Tennis were delighted to welcome the LTA President, David Rawlinson, to the County. The day started at Royal Wootton Bassett Tennis Club, a thriving tennis club on the edge of Swindon which has 8 flood-lit all-weather tennis courts.  The Wiltshire Tennis Executive committee and RWBTC committee welcomed David to the club as juniors were being coached and members were enjoying a Cardio tennis lesson.  Coffee and pastries were kindly provided by the club and enjoyed by all! There were six counties in the group with the group spilt into two group of three counties. We were drawn with the Channel Islands and Cornwall. 18U Girls – Edgbaston The 18U girls were at Edgbaston for the County Cup event.  After a shaky start and finding ourselves 2-0 down against Bedfordshire after the first 2 matches, the girls did brilliantly to convert and storm to a 7-2 win.  A great start on day 1. On our second day we played West of Scotland – after the singles our number 1 and 2 seeds kept us in the match after winning their singles meaning it was all down to the doubles.  Unfortunately, this time we were unable to convert losing all the doubles rubbers thus a…

The annual Mini Red Team Tennis Festival at the Delta Tennis Centre was a great success. The event as always was well attended with 16 teams of 4 players competing from across Wiltshire. The young players are tested throughout the day with a tennis quiz, serving, rallying and skills test plus so fun team doubles matches. It was great to see these mini red players having fun and playing competitive matches for what might have been the first time ever. Rebecca Heaps, who trains at Delta Tennis Centre, Swindon, finished the Easter holidays on a high at the Tennis Europe 14U event at Nottingham last week. The week started with a tough draw against the No 1 seeded Belgian girl Flo Helsen, Rebecca won 7-6 6-0. A great start. Next round was against the British girl Amelie Brooks who Rebecca breezed past 6-2 6-1. Next was a South West rival, Mimi Xu, With Rebecca losing the first set 6-1 it looked like the week was over but she managed to bring it back and win the next two sets 6-3…

Lane Stow is not a player to be trifled with, when it comes to tennis tournaments you play him at your peril. Again for the umpteenth time he came back with medals at his latest tennis journey, a gold in the singles and a silver in the doubles. Like  his idol Roger Federer he continues to play a superior quality and  consistent game than his adversaries (although I have detected a change of allegiance to Novak Djokavic recently). Swindon’s Mr Bling probably  now boasts more silver and gold than there is in Fort Knox and The Tower of London combined!…
